this is an MSE website - deposit the money in a regular savings account to earn a good nterest rate - the days of tins under the bed are long gone, even if it is insured (though I think you may find there is a limit to how much cash they will cover in the house)0

You dont sound very clever, if you put that money in an account you will get interest on it. One thing not on your list is one months rent as deposit upfront. Some rentals include some bills e.g. council tax. If your saving alot and depending on your circumstances it might be better to even be saving for a deposit for mortgage.0

Download the budget planner on the tools section of this website to help you. That way you can have a structured plan for saving into a separate savings account by standing order rather than a rather random 'sticking money in a pot' approach where you have absolutely no idea if you will come close to your target.
You'll need at least a months rent and up to six weeks deposit, plus agency fees, plus moving costs. That should be the minimum you aim to save.0 -

we have a set budget to put away everyweek which we have caculated based on my mums bills for a much larger house than what we are getting so its not randomly puttin money in a pot
we are doing this so we have the money for 6months rent and 6months bills plus the deposit and first time buys.
i have a meeting with the bank so set up an account to put the money in instead off having it in a sealed potWedding Is Booked
