Natwest cancelled my student credit card

So.
A while ago I got a letter stating that if I don't use my student credit card by Fri 16th July they would cancel it.
I started, by trying to find whether anything allowed them to do this. But I couldn't find anything either way.
Hence, yesterday I made one transaction on it (Linking with my paypal account causes a £1 charge to be made for verification).
Yet it did not show up in my online banking before they cancelled the card (And it has been removed from online banking, and refuses to let me add it)
Now I don't know what to do.
Is there anything I could do to get it back? I like having the safety net even if I don't need it at the moment. And are they even allowed to do this? Force you to use the card, or cancel it, with no alternative?
Help is appreciated.

Yes, they can do it.
And if it's been closed, unlikely they will reopen. You'll need to reapply.0 -

It is their money and their card.
Credit card is not a right. Of course they can do it.
Maybe next time just buy fuel with it here and there or something and clear it in full every month. it's not that difficult.0 -
Yes they can close it "just like that".
Tesco did the same to a friend of mine. He was soooo annoyed! :mad:Barclaycard 0% - [STRIKE]£1688.37 [/STRIKE] Paid off 10.06.120 -
Closing off cards for inactivity is fairly common - sorry but that's just the way it works. Unless you use it, and well, you always run the risk of them closing it, freezing it, reducing limits etc for a whole variety of reasons (inactivity being one).
If you re-apply it may well be approved given that it seems your credit is in good shape (you don't even have the need to use it so things seem good) but like any said above, just use it for the odd thing here and here, set up a full DD so it pays the whole thing every month (no interest charges) and you should be good to go.0
