Stolen Cars - What Compensation to expect
Comments

I am not a he I am a she. And there are no ambulances involved in a stolen car case. I am a barrister and I am happy to provide free advice. I have not mentioned the firm I work for.
No.
Elsewhere on MSE you have broken the rules by not only "mentioning" the firm you work for, but giving us a full blown ad for it, detailing your services and prices for your services.
You know the expression "ambulance chaser" was used to refer to your cynically looking out for an opportunity to enter a thread and include a suggestion to a poster to contact you should they have difficulties in dealing with an insurance company.
Only when it has been pointed out to you that you were touting for business did you come up with this idea that you will act for free.
It is against the rules for you to use MSE to gain personal details of any member, so how do you propose acting for free for us?0 -
I corrected some dodgy advice you gave regarding a likely-bogus fake accident scam.
I said nothing "dodgy" whatsoever. (And of course this is all irrelevant to this particular thread, and your mentioning it here seems designed just to cause trouble)
The poster has received a letter from a solicitor who he believes was instructed by an insurer on behalf of someone who wants to make a claim against him for damage done in an alleged collision.

The poster didn't want the hassle of refuting this.
My advice was that he ought to pass on the correspondence to his own insurer and let them deal with the hassle as not only was this what we pay our insurance for, but it is also a condition of the policy that the insurer is informed about any claims made or correspondence like this received.
You disagree, which is your perfect right, but you don't have the right to accuse me of being "dodgy" with my post.0 -
Quentin grow up. Lucy (who i've never met before and never had a conversation with) is giving advice on here, some of it may be incorrect I honestly couldnt say one way or the other as I don't have the knowledge but then some of what you say could be incorrect as well. People give advice on here it's what the forum is about and some of that advice will be wrong or misguided but that doesnt make them a bad person and it certainly doesn't give you the right to follow them around criticising them at every opportunity and abusing them. You sound like some kind of bully chasing her around the board and I for one think its time you grew up and acted your age.
By the way somebody did a similar thing with my partner, a legal firm called and said they had a client who claimed she'd crashed into them a few days earlier and drove off. The only problem is she was in India for a month and so wasn't at home when the supposed crash happened, in fact her car was locked up in our garage. I took the call and explained this to the legal idiots who didn't believe me and asked for insurance details. I refused because I didn't see why I/she had to give insurance details out to any tom !!!!!! and harry who phoned up asking for them with no evidence that we had done anything wrong. I phoned the insurance company up and asked whether I should have given them the information and they confirmed that no I shouldn't as if they had a reasonable reason for wanting them they could get them from the insurance database thing. I asked if I needed to officially inform them (the insurer) about the allegation and they said no, again if the other party feels I have been in an accident with them then it is THEIR duty to contact the insurance company, it is only my duty to if I believe an accident has occured. They said if I had to inform them when anyone makes any !!!! and bull story up then there would be nothing stopping anyone from falling out with somebody, sending a letter alleging a crash and forcing them to inform their insurer. There would be nothing stopping somebody in Nigeria from sending me an email saying I crashed into them last week 10,000 miles from my home and I would have to contact my insurer. In fact there would be nothing stopping a spammer from spamming 1million English email addresses with the same allegation and all 1million would have to contact their insurer by law which is ridiculous.0 -
By the way OP the same thing happened to my parents although only one car was taken the keys for both their cars were stolen along with obviously the house key.
They hooked through the letterbox and stole a bunch of keys containing house key and both car keys and drove off in my dads car. They contacted the insurers who said they'd need to claim on the house insurance for the house lock changing, my mums car insurance for her car locks changing and my dads insurance for the car replacing. Excess of around £300 in total I think.
20 minutes after it was stolen the police found the car with somebody sat in it, their fingerprints all over the place. The police informed us that they had no proof he had stolen the car and sent him on his way. Apparently he told them he had found it at the side of the road. It's ok though, he suffered a fractured skull and broken legs 2 weeks later...0 -
Abuse comes in many forms. Harrassment is a form of abuse. Either way grow up, if you don't like her then dont follow her around. Quite simple really0
-
You now reduce the accusation from the "abuse" I haven't given anyone to being "harassment"!
Where have I harassed? (You accuse me of "following her around" - in this thread, if you look you will see I had posted twice prior to her arrival in the thread and her attempt to tout for business, closely followed by her accusation that I had posted some "dodgy" advice! So who is following who, and who is abusing who here?0 -

Vaio. Thank you so much for pointing me to that. This has really helped me feel in more of a position of strength now. Parker guide - full retail value will be my starting point. You're a star. (and thanks for getting the the thread back on track).0 -
And visit the BMW dealer (assuming you’re going to replace the car) and get them to give you the numbers off the other guides mentioned in the FOS link,
What you are looking for is a payout so you can go back and buy the same car again.0
