Am I Wrong to be Angry at This?

I think you are right to be very annoyed. There is a case here for reporting the organisers to the Charity Commission as they have misrepresented what the money was going to. They have juristiction even if the organisers were individuals.0

I'd be annoyed too.
I'd write to the organiser stating that you donated the value of your services to the charity, so you would like that money to be forwarded to them, and let them know how much your usual fee is, and ask for proof that they sent the money.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
Im with the above, I would be sending a strongly worded letter stating that your fees were waivered under false pretenses and you now require full paymentBow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0

Before I say about my own experiences, I firstly want to say that you are right about being annoyed that they weren't upfront.
I have just this summer spent 4months in an orphanage in kenya. No 'expensive' sightseeing whilst at the orphanage just matatu trips into nairobi on my weekends which I had free. The rest of the time I spent with the children (100 there) helping to educate them and just being there as a friend for them. I also helped out with the cooking and cleaning.
I DID pay for the trip with 100% of my own money. I also added a 2 week 'holiday' down to the coast as I thought I'd paid a lot to fly there, I may as well see more of the country.
However, it cost me around 2.5K. I am a student, this was money I'd worked hard for and saved up in my holidays, I am now a very poor 3rd year but having had a fantastic life changing experience.
The trouble is the orphanage want me to come back next year however, I cant afford to pay them for accomodation etc as well as the flights. So I am considering raising double or even triple the money (depending on how well fund raising goes) for my stay there and giving that directly to the orphanage and paying for my own flights.
Having read these posts I am now a bit worried that this wouldn't appear to be fair or right in peoples eyes.
please feel free to voice your opinion but please do not slate me, if its wrong, just tell me and I will figure out a way to get back but I do truly miss those kids.NSD's: 12/12 Oct 10/15 Nov0 -
As long as you are open and up front about your plans, I can't see anything wrong with it. People can decide whether or not they want to support you, based on what you say you're doing and how you're going about it.Signature removed for peace of mind0

it's an upfront thing. If you know about it upfront, then you can decide whether or not to support it.
OP, you'd said that you've supported a few things by offering services in ind, have you ever thought about formalising a policy on what you can and will do, and what you won't?for more info check out www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk . You'll find me there.

yes, I realise I may appear cold and heartless a lot of the time.0 -
