Hopefully this is the correct place to post this rather odd request.
Have purchased some new sandals for holidays, however these sandals have such a 'newness odour' almost similar to the smell of petrol, so much so as you walk in the house you can smell them.
My question is....has anyone got any ideas of how to rid the smell before l pack them in a suitcase case as l don't want the entire contents of the case smelling the same.

Can they go thru a washing machine rinse with some aftershave/perfume in the water? Or leave outside over night to air? Or if the smell doesn't go away in 3 weeks, wrap them in cling film before putting in your suitcase. Pop some pot pourri in the cling too.
Can't say I have ever had a petrol smell from my shoes...!0 -
You could try some odour eliminating shoe spray, the sort you use in sweaty trainers etc! Or wrap them in tissue paper and a plastic bag before packing them in your suitcase, that should stop the smell spreading0

Thank you both for your suggestions. I have to say l have never experienced this type of odour from shoes before either0

Buy some charcoal used for barbeques, put sandals and charcoal in a cardboad box that you can seal. Leave for a few days. If the sandals still reek, repeat the execise."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

If they are leather you could simply polish them. Some shoes are sometimes pre treated to avoid the leather cracking so you might find some polish will remove the smell and also keep them looking good. Failing that i personally would give them an airing by either wearing them a bit or by putting them outside. Maybe in a shed or garrage so they can get the air to them. The good thing about wering them is at least if they rub and give you blisters they will b healed by the time you go away.
Even if the smell does go i would suggest taking a carrier bag away with you so they can be wrapped in. There's nothing worse than realising that your clothes smell when you are away.
Hope you have a lovely holiday and the sandals don't cause you any probs. What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger.0 -
