Neighbour complaining about a/c

Options
Hi all,
We have installed an air conditioning unit for the benefit of my disabled spouse who spends all his time in bed. the compressor is the quietest one available and is attached to my garage, which is next to his garage.
He is complaining about the noise it will make (less than a small desk fan for crying out loud) and that it is unsightly. It is partially hidden by a plant that he put in the middle of our boundary, after he removed all the grass and put down pebbles (I had agreed, and even split the cost with him!)
Does anyone know if there are any grounds for him to formally complain?
Its been there since monday, and he only noticed it today..

Many thanks.

Let him complain and get the local authority to do their tests. I think you shouldn't worry too much about this.

My God!!!! What is wrong with people, does your neighbour not know how lucky he is????

For gawds sake, he is living near or next to a A/C unit, he should be counting his blessings he aint living next to crack den!!!!

This unit is unlikely to generate any significant noise relevent to be a Statutory Nuisance - and measurements would be done from inside the neighbours house not outside in the garden

If walls are attached and reverberation is an issue, then rubber dampers will deal with that.

It's very sad, as now this will will always be an issue and if he complains and gets nowhere, then in is mind he has "lost" and this typically leads to other petty behavior in the future.

On a positive note ..... you wont need the aircon much this summer!

Thank you all. He is rather petty, I just wanted to check if he he had any grounds to be!
He complained about children talking on the street out his house once. My answer was the children were doing no harm, were here before he moved in, so perhaps he should not have moved to a family oriented neighbourhood!

You don't need grounds to be petty. It's just something that comes naturally to some people. Ignore him.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Tell him to turn his tv/radio on if it annoys him so much, fair enough if it was very loud but if its a noisy as a fan then cant see what he is complaining out
