If you have given up a Housing Association property

to move into a privately rented house, are the council able to help should you need housing again?

Someone said to me I gave up my lifetime tenancy so they don't have to house me again?

Which is totally fair enough, I just wondered if anyone here knew the definite answer before I go wasting mine and other peoples time filling out an application.

Thanks :)

Usually, as long as you have no debts from the previous HA tenancy, and conducted the tenancy properly this should be OK.

However, assuming you are appropriately housed you might find that you are at the back of a very long queue.

    Thanks.

I'm adequately housed at the moment but have just been given notice. My landlord wants to move back in so I've got 8 weeks to find somwhere else.

I was just wondering whether the council would be worth a try if worst case scenario I don't get anywhere in the next 8 weeks.
