Replacing pump in washing machine

Options
I have a Zanussi WJS 1665W washer/dryer, and I am getting Error E20 on the machine and it won't enter the spin cycle as the water will not pump out, I think its the pump as I had the same problem about 18 months ago, it was fixed for circa £125.

Now I have seen compatible pumps for sale for about £30, how would I go about fitting it into the machine? I would be grateful for any replies - thanks!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    Turn off water and electric
    Disconnect the water supply hoses
Disconnect the waste water pipe and lay it flat onto the ground into a bowl, that will gravity empty the water out from inside
Take the back panel off to expose the pump
Using a pair of pliers take off the circlip holding on the waste water hoses
Disconnect the control wires from the pump remembering where they go
Disconnect the pump from the machine
Refit the new pump and follow the instructions back from the bottom

    Simples !

Does error 20 actually mean the pump?

If so the pump is easy to change - but the machine needs to be tipped onto its front or side. Two or three screws and two jubilee clips

Otherwise the pump is easy to check for function, or take apart to remove the penny or bra wire which is normally stopping it

Other things can cause the machine not to empty - a common one is a blocked pressure sensor pipe or cylinder (which just needs a clean out) or the sensor itself. This fault casuse the machine to not realise that the drum is still full, and so it does not move to the next cycle (ie empty)

If the machine has emptied earlier in the cycle, then its not the pump

thanks guys, going to make sure it is the pump first and not a block anywhere ;) the machine is 10 years old and this is only the second time something has gone wrong, I would hate to replce it with something not so reliable .

error 20 is pump or a block somewhere

Is there a little door on front of machine ? If so theres a filter in there that catches coins etc so it does not damage pump.
Bear in mind if you unscrew the filter the water will come out. Best way to do it pull out the machine and whilst someone leans the machine back the other person can unscrew the filter and give it a clean and pop it back in and job done.
If you dont have help get a tray and put it under the filter and open unscrew the filter SLIGHTLY and let the water drain into tray and close again when trays full, repeat til empty and then clean the filter.
It happened to me couple of weeks ago.

Not only did I save a fortune on repair I also found £8 in coins, an earings and a ring!!

i agree. tip the machine over slightly and prop it up. (depending where the pump is).
    remove the rear panel.
remove the pump and the pipes and clean it out. you can bench test the pump too.
you may find the above is enough.
reinstalling or fitting a new pump is a straight forward job.

    ps
you can buy universal pumps for about 13 quid. they fit a lot of machines.

a broken impellor is a very common fault with pumps.
    Get some gorm.

Thanks for that just found some on eBay going for a tenner, I am positively gutted I spent £125 on a repair last year for something that these guys can get for a few quid.

Anyway, I will try that as I have taken it apart today and nothing was blocking it
