Thanks for all your comments, good and bad :)

weegie.geek you have sussed me immediately :) Yes it is for arbs.

I do agree with a couple of comments suggesting I ask for the data from the site for a fee. It would make the software more efficient. I might look into this but I am not convinced that their response will be positive.

I am not sure it is possible to run the software through a proxy. As I said before I have no computer knowledge, and the guy who made the software for me (my brother) isn't very forthcoming with help and advice. I don't want to keep annoying him with questions. He did say that it won't run through a proxy though but he didn't give me the reasons. He is a busy guy and runs his own computer games programming company. So after a long day in front of computers he doesn’t really want to hear me talking about this software.

I will try turning my router off and on and see if my address changes now. I will also look into VPS. Thank you all for your contributions.

  • Hmm saying it wouldnt run through a proxy is a bit odd.. web data is the major use of proxying! Very odd indeed.

In its current state it might not be able to run through a proxy, but I'd imagine a modification would be trivial. If he's not got time to do it, that leaves you with few options.

Still running the code on your home machine, you could maybe use the VPS for a VPN? Routing all traffic through the VPS transparently. No matter whether the tool supports proxies, this should work. You'd have to make sure beforehand that the VPS provider supports this.

Of course you could always rent a windows VPS and run the software on there. Quite a bit more expensive to rent a windows VPS though. Guess it depends how good your scripts are at finding arbs. ;)

I would imagine that it would be possible to run through a proxy by changing the scripting slightly of the programme. But I am no programmer and don't have the ability to modify it. I guess I will keep getting onto my brother and ask him to help.

I did reset my router and that did change my IP address so the problem is temporarily solved. I am able to now run the software again. But I am not sure if they will eventually find a way to block me permanently?

I contacted the site and asked for permission or maybe a feed. But they declined, so I do not have their blessing. They said that anything which slows their site down will have to be blocked.

I guess there is not really an easy way around this? I can keep resetting my router each time I get blocked, but I am concerned that they will find a way to permanently block me.

They won't be able to permanently block you if you can keep changing your IP, but they might complain to your ISP.

I didn't check his post history, I'm an on-again off-again matched bettor myself so the description of what he's up to rang a bell. :)

Use a TOR router as a proxy server - it works for me http://www.torproject.org/

He's currently unable to set a proxy, the app he's using doesn't support it.

I would bear in mind that if your activities are having a negative effect on the host and degrade the experience of any other users then you will be committing a criminal offence and potentially face prosecution. And even if they don't go down the criminal route, they could just make a complaint to your ISP as it is likely your actions are a violation of the ToS.
