hi folks
just to ask on behalf of my neighbour who has a blue disabled badge
he forgot to put it up today when in doctors & came out to a £30 parking fine
does he have a case for fighting this?
it was a genuine slip up
also if he drives into a pay & display car park & the disabled spaces are gone (full)
does he need to pay if he parks in a normal space within the pay and display
thanks in leiu

Having a blue badge does not mean you have to park in a disabled bay and fees on parking are down to the car park owners. You really need to read the small prints on the signage. Alot of car parks have in tiny print that parking is free for badge holders, some state it is only free if you have an exempt tax disc, the remainder you pay the same as everyone else you just have the privilige of parking closer to the shopping level.
If the car park states free parking for badge holders then it doesnt matter if parked in a disabled bay or not.
As for the parking fine i doubt you would be able to get away with not paying it as it is the badge holders responsibility to ensure the badge is displayed in a visible spot, to say you merely forgot would not suffice.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

First of all, was this a police or council ticket or just a private car park.
Its important to know this.
iF you can post a picture of the ticket up on here, back and front and the signage around, (please delete all personal info)
poeple can check it for yu for any errors. It may be found to be invalid if there are. Its amazing how many mistakes are made
by the parking peoplemake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Some car parks state that it is free for blue badge holders if they display their badge and are parked in the disabled parking bays. If parked in a 'normal' bay they have to pay the charges blue badge or not.
Hats off to those car parks who have a large signs stating this so one does not have to get out of the car and hunt it in the small printProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

Thanks for all your help had my neighbour in reading the replies, his son in law an ex policeman will look into the parking fine issue he said, it wasnt a car park, just on the street nr doctor since disabled bays were occupied.
re: the car park payments, it was helpful,
this is a great place to come for advice
many thanks Red0 -
In our borough you can park anywhere in the town even on double yellow lines with a blue badge for free, the only exemptions are privately run car parks who have there own parking rules and on some off the streets if there are 2 small yellow stripes on the actual kerb side. There is a blue badge manual you can aquire which will tell you in you local area where the permitted parking is for future use. Thanks for all your help had my neighbour in reading the replies, his son in law an ex policeman will look into the parking fine issue he said, it wasnt a car park, just on the street nr doctor since disabled bays were occupied.

You still have to be careful about parking on double yellows.
OH took me to town a few weeks back and all disabled bays were full, even some with no badges on display, so we parked on double yellows, i displayed my badge and clock, what we didn't bank on was the no loading/ parking sign which was there and so got a ticket.
We thought we would be ok, no obstructing traffic etc, sticking to the rule.0
