Hi
Something for the weekend......
http://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/
England's largest voluntary cultural event
Heritage Open Days celebrates England's fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. Every year on four days in September, buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors, ranging from castles to factories, town halls to tithe barns, parish churches to Buddhist temples. It is a once-a-year chance to discover hidden architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities which bring to life local history and culture.
Free of charge and literally on people's doorstep, Heritage Open Days is an event for everyone, whatever their background, age and ability.
Co-ordinated nationally by the Civic Trust in partnership with English Heritage, the event thrives on the enthusiasm and expertise of local people. Thousands of volunteers from all walks of life share their knowledge and memories with some 850,000 visitors every year, making Heritage Open Days England's largest voluntary cultural event.
This year, as part of the History Matters – pass it on campaign, around 300 of the nation’s most familiar and important heritage sites will be opened for free by English Heritage, the National Trust and the Historic Houses Assocation on 9 September 2006, alongside more than 3,250 other fascinating properties of every period and style, making it the biggest year yet for Heritage Open Days. Don't miss this unique opportunity to enjoy this country's heritage and show how much it matters to you.
Let's hope the weather's OK
Enjoy
Allan
