    Sorry about the job Spike.

As for the revolution I did the cardinal sin and took DD out of school to home educate (she is 26 now) as she was bullied so much she ended up in hospital, long story but she wasn't getting the education she deserved and was dyslexic too. If the education committee could have done it they would have tarred and feathered me and walked me through the streets. Always remember you and your child have rights. I think there must be a file on me somewhere that warns the powers that be that Im a trouble maker :rotfl:It frightens the hell out of authorities when you know your rights and threaten their very existence. But I would not recommend any takes their kids out of school unless its the only option as it is very very hard work. All turned out well though Dd went back to another school a year later, where the headmaster, bless his cottonsocks, was a bit different than most and got her through 6 GCSE's. It was ok at his school to be different or have parents who didn't conform and also you were allowed to be yourself.

I know this isn't about school uniform its just about finding your niche and giving people identities.

Sorry to hear about your job Spike. Hope something comes up soon.

School appear to be in holiday mood this week - DS has been wearing trainers as his shoes broke last week and I haven't been told off yet ;) I've checked their tshirt supplier and its £8 per Tshirt. Based on last year I'll be lucky if they last a term. The least they could do is pick a dark colour for them, white is useless.

Just one more day of the school run to get through :) As DH is home at the moment he's on childcare duties for the summer which in its unfortunate way makes life easier for me.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

You can make one before you get married and it will remain valid, you just need to have a clause added that the will is being made "in contemplation of marriage".

Don't wait. If you can afford it now, get it sorted now.

I already have one, but it will become invalid - the new one is in the pipeline & will just need to be signed.
... if you have ex's and specifically dont want them to have anything, make sure you write it in the will...

My divorce lawyer got my done free on legal aid in 2001, which is why it still has guardianship details for the kids.

I have to say I agree - in theory - with having at least 6 months worth of income in savings...

We have a rainy-day fund of enough to manage for 3 months, plus OH's income protection as an extra.

There are a lot of people on this forum that are not living a luxuary lifestyle just to pay off their mortgage and keep their heads above water. Its not the fact of paying off a large sum each month to the bank (I know darn well its loads more percentage wise than my parents and both my inlaws had to fork out). My parents (on mass!) all say they feel for us as the proportion of house vs bills payments out of our wages have got completely out of hand.

I really want the security of my own home in retirement and as a family team we are all happy to work towards that, but somewhere along the line I have to ask if it is worth it.

Today I've been looking at the cost of school shirts for DS. He's a teenager so needsa few to swap round to keep them fresh. Now-a-days they have to be specific nylon polo shirts with their logo on. Cost a bomb, wash like rubbish. I am ashamed at the colour they go after a few washes.

Take me back to previous years when white cotton shirts were required, could be boiled washed and ironed nicely. (Oh and the mortgage at time allowed for a week in the summer as well).

    Sorry peoples, I'm ranting again.

The boys secondary school was polo shirts and sweatshirt, but 18 months ago changed to tie, white dress shirt and blazer, as you say polos gone within a month.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

So sorry to hear about your job Spike - would it be worth actually going there and asking to speak to somebody (rather than just a phone call)?

You're not alone . I took my youngest out for two years and he blossomed. He went back to mainstream school when we moved to a different county and is doing well. One more year at 6th form. I only have one regret about Home Educating, that I didn't know it was possible when my daughter, now 28, was being bullied at school. It is hard work but the rewards are enormous.

  • Sorry about the job Spike7451. The schools my children attend have expensive uniforms and they are in a working class area. Last year my 1 of my DD school changed their uniform which was o.k as she was only going but this year they have changed the blazer and a new 1 has just cost me 50 quid in addition I have to get her certain skirts, tights and shoes. The colour is nor a popular 1 so have to go to 1 of the nominated suppliers. I have 2 other DDs at different schools and 1 of their jumpers is 18.50 alone!! I have put in for uniform grants as I was made redundant not so long ago and they'll help a bit. I have been stockpiling essentials and things that I will use quite a lot off ie shampoo, conditioner, etc. With myself and 3 girls we get through quite a lot of these!!!!
