EMO European Municipality Outsourcing - Notice of Payment Before Notification

Options
Hi All,

I have had recent a letter, 279 days after the supposed offence from the EMO (European Municipality Outsourcing) demanding i pay a fine for a traffic offence entering a restricted are whilst driving a hire car in italy. If i dispute it and fail they will double the fine!! Seems all a bit unfair.

This all sounds like an agency working on behalf of the hire car company and the Italian police who takes a cut for anyone that actually pays the fine.

Legally do you have to pay this if i live in the UK?
Is it real or is it a scam?

Has any one else received such notices and what did you do?

Help please

Thanks

Others will come here and give advice, in the meantime, tell your card provider that the card you used for the car hire has been lost, they then can't take payment out of your card.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

    Excellent article.

You cannot be extradited for traffic offences, so let them whistle [imo].

That's how I read it too. What a good article Orford has linked. :)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The same thing has just happened to me, I've just received a letter informing me of a traffic offence I apparently commited in Florence.
The offence is nearly 12 months old, and the letter tells me I have 20 days to pay the fine (120 euros including taxes).
The thing is I think it's likely i did commit an offence while getting lost in the backstreets trying to find my hotel, but the amount of the fine seems completely out of proportion to any offence.

I'm in two minds as to whether I should ignore it or not. The letter came by normal post, so they've no proof I received it at the moment.

The article posted by Orford is great. I have to admit I was worried about debt collection agencies getting involved and the possibility of being arrested if I tried to re-enter to country.
  • I don't wish to hijack daniel's thread but I'd like to share this with you:

I was in a small provincial town in south ireland 3 weeks ago(pop. approx 40,000 - not exactly kensington). barriered parking cost 4 euro's for 2hrs. street parking was similar using meter.

I parked on-street (brit reg plate) without ticket and walked into pub. l/lord warned me about 100 euro ticket. I put him on 'ignore'.

no ticket as it happens and no clamp. lucky me. but can anyone advise on what the euro situation is, country by country and any repurcussions?
