Dfs!!

Hi, I am having all sorts of issues with DFS, we bought a leather lounge suite in May/June of last year a 3 seater and a 2 seater sofa, within 1 month of having the sofas I had to call them up as the 3 seater cushions went flat, they came and and stuffed it with more foam.

I have the same issue with the same sofa now and called them up they sent someone out and he said I will probably have to pay to have it fixed, to which i was horrified.

I then got a call a week later stating it will cost me £190 to have it stuffed with foam again, we have been on to the manager of the store and his response was it is us that have abused it by sitting on the edge of the sofa and not in the sofa!!

Even the guy that came out to inspect it sat on the edge of it, I don't know where to turn we still have 3 more years of paying for something that is not fit for purpose, has anyone any advice for me please.

You could contact your hp lender and explain the problem although you cannot stop paying them they might be able to help failing that contact trading standards im afraid your problem got worse when you let them fix it the first time once you let them repair it all they will offer to do again and again is repair and unfortunatly they charge for that after a year, How long is your garentee ? I totally hear what your saying i bought one this year and on the first day i got it told them to uplift it under sale of goods act, id read all posts on here including the consumer forum and you will notice a pattern that dfs works too to resolve or ignore problems. Trading standards will advise you or you can try Fira i posted their number on posts regarding dfs failing that im sure you can find it on google etc, good luck and i hope this helps. i know this is not much help to you now,but dfs entice people in with the 4 years intrest free and nothing for the first year, the suits are poor quality,we looked and they were awful and over priced,we got one from harveys 3 years ago now for the same price we would have paid in dfs,the seats are all sprung and retain there shape and it looks almost as good as it did 3 years ago,we have 2 kids as well and we all know what they are like.....my advice dont be enticed with the intrest free from them, other companies do it as well, and shop around as there products are crap

Just to turn the last comment on its head, I bought from DFS (paying by CC to be sure I had some extra come-back if there were problems). The process went smoothly, delivered when promised, and there were no problems. A year later I'm still very happy with what I bought. My parents bought a sofa from Harveys, and the first was delivered with a cut in the leather - although pointed out when delivered, they still had a real argument to get it replaced and not just repaired. Eventually a replacement sofa was provided, and one seat wasn't sprung correctly - that took another month to fix.

The fundamental problem seems to be that the cheaper end of the sofa industry need to pull their act together - as it seems everybody knows somebody with a nightmare story.
  • I have just been reading several negative posts on here about the 'Dodgy Furniture Store' AFTER ordering the Biba last week!! I'm gutted!
Is it too late to cancel? I have done the pay nothing for a year then interest free for 3 years.
I would be happy to send it back upon delivery if I wasn't happy with it but it seems the after-care when things go wrong with them later on down the line is terrible!
Does anybody have any advice? Or any happily ever after stories from DFS? They show it in the tan colour on website and in store, but I ordered it in the dark brown which is making me more worried as I haven't even been able to see the colour I am buying, only a swatch! Such a shame as I really liked the style of it but I wish I had seen this before!

Look at the terms of the agreement - what does the cancellation clause say?
  • Just to put your mind at ease Gemhen, I have purchased three sets of leather sofas over many years from DFS and have always been happy with them.
I have currently got the Navona in brown and after two and a half years it is still in very good condition, the only problem is I have just moved home and the three seater is now too big but I shall sell this and replace with two chairs from the same range.
The previous one is now being used by my brother and wife almost ten years after I bought it and it still looks well, I changed it for a new colour scheme and the first one stayed with my ex husband!
Only you can make the decision what to do but I just wanted to reassure that whilst some people have had bad experiences with DFS, mine have all been good.

There are lots of old threads around here with regards to problems re: quality with DFS sofas. Given that, I personally avoid them.
