Dvd drive ejects disc when ever put into drive?

Every time a cd or dvd is put into the dvd rewriter drive it closes and then automatically ejects the disc. Have tried different discs, pre recorded cd's, recordable cd's and dvd's put still ejects every disc. If drive tray is closed without a disc in it it stays closed. Can anyone help?
Not sure if related but last couple of times when I turn pc on windows starts to load and then it freezes and I have to do ctrl, alt ,del and then it turns on.
Would be grateful for any advice. Thanks

try getting one of those cd cleaning discs and using it.. it could be that the laser is dirty and unable to read the discs so ejects it

Thanks, do you know the best place to pick one up, would pc world sell them?

Any ideas what could be causing the pc to freeze when switched on?

Try Poundland or the99p store, they normally have disc cleaners.
