Hi there
Venice is great and it can be reasonable if you eat away from the main tourist areas.
Venetians (don't call the Italians) are very very proud of their city and will be thrilled to give you advice on where to go and eat. Just take the time, chat a bit and ask.
I would try and visit Burano if you can, it's a lovely wee place with lots of brightly coloured buildings. It's the island next to Murano (the glass factory) island. No 1 waterboat I think.
best wishes

With compassision, good manners, kindness and dignity as your ticket you will travel far in life.0 -
Yes, Venice Island is the main part - the "canal city".
Lido is another [quite large] Island to the south, it has roads (with cars obviously). To get to Lido you have to take a larger ferry which (if I recall correctly) takes around 20 minutes - so factor this in each time to wish to go to the "main part".
Miestro (??) is on the Italian Mainland - there only water-ways here will probably be rivers.0 -
Venice is excellent, truly a wonderful place. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is good for finding hotels and you should find a place with B&B for about €90 a night for the room (for two). You can pay more, for example - The Bauer will cost an arm and a leg - but don't discount digging deep if you want that special occasion.
Food and drink and shopping are wonderful. You can walk and take the Vaporetta everywhere. You don't need Italian but maybe asking for and getting hints for places helps when you speak it (and the missus can certainly babble in her mother-tongue).
It's her favourite city in the world and she's fairly picky
In the United Kingdom 200,000 people are bitten by dogs every year and some people will die as a result. Of those bitten, 70% are children... So the question has to be asked....... Has the time come to ban children?0 -
I love Venice. It's atmosphere, it's buildings and history.
We didn't find it too expensive for eating out if you go away from St Mark's square.
In St Mark's square a wedding party was celebrating at one of the outdoor restaurants.
The music was beautiful and a very romantic place for the wedding.
At night hundreds of fairy lights come on at all the outside restaurants. They reflect in the water and it's purely magical.
In February the masked balls take place and that's a great time.
You'll have a fabulous time there.
