Private ip was changed to public ip using a router. How do I change it back to a private ip address?

What do you mean? This is too cryptic. Perhaps if you would describe what you have done or what has been done to you, people would stand a chance of helping you.

Not true - 192.168.0.1 is a private IP address as it is part of a specified range of IP addresses that are not intended to be routed across networks. See the Wikipedia entry on private IP adresses.

From the (admittedly cryptic) original post, it sounds like the OP has disabled NAT and his/her single PC is connected directly to the WAN (Internet) using the public IP address supplied by the ISP.

If this is the case, the way to re-enable NAT (for improved security and the ability to connect multiple PCs to the Internet using one public IP address) would be via your router's web interface. You can probably find instructions on the router manufacturer's website.

I hadn't realised that but given the OP's question and having read the wikipedia page, it's probably nothing to do with a public or private IP address.
