I'm trying to open a step account but have been told by someone on the chat thing on the website that is unlikely i'll be successfull because i only have a provisional license and they require a full one. Surely not everyone in the uk can drive or has a passport. She suggested i take everything i have and see what the branch say.
Guess if i say no, i'm off over the road to Barclays.
Has anyone opened a natwest account recently with a provisional license?

For some reason banks in the RBS Group are the only one take provisional licenses, HBoS take it as your address ID but not main ID, but LloydsTSB (who bought over HBoS) will accept a provisonal driving license as proof of identity0

Lloyds is a no go as i owe them 10k, do you no if RBS do a basic account?0

Here's a list of what you can use to open an account with Natwest (the same goes for RBS):

As you can see, you can only use a provisional driver's licence if you're 20 or under.Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion

The RBS one is called the key account. The problem here is Nawest and RBS Retail are all owned by the RBS Group. They also have the same idenitiy requirements. Bank of Scotland do one called the Easy cash account (also called Easy Cash in England/Wales/NI by the Halifax) and you can do it on-line and I beleive get an instant decision. I know even because Halifax Bank of Scotland have been taken over by LTSB , LTSB would not be able to raid your bank account. In fact in the current account T&C's for BoS Current Accounts it states the right of offset is only applicable between Bank of Scotland products, not Lloyds Banking Group Company's products as a whole.
I hope this makes some sence.0 -
not gonna lie, that made my head hurt

For Natwest it says this 'Original HM Revenue & Customs issued tax notification and correspondence'
Would a p60 cover that?0 -

It wouldn't unfortunately.
Do you receive any kind of benefits at all....Child Tax Credit etc?
@mickbhall Once you receive all the paperwork, you will probably be asked to take your ID into your local branch to be verified and sent off.Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion

No i don't get benefits, looking a bit hopeless really, there is no way i can afford to get a passport i'd never use.
Didn't think it would be this tricky to get a bank account
