A friend had a Yahoo email account, which kept sending Spam out, so created another, and just stopped using the old one.
Every week or three an email will appear from the old account, with a typical Spam message.
He thinks there is nothing he can do, however, I think that there is Malware in one of the two pc's they use and it can be stopped.
Opinions please.

Don't think it's malware but could be. If in doubt (instructions by alineRIK):
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ma..._anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD THIS VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/2894/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)0 -
If it was malware the new account would be sending out spam too (IMO).
All I can suggest is to close the old account (if possible) although the chances are it isn't being sent from the account anyway - it is trivial to spoof the sender email address.0 -
It sounds as if his old account might have been hacked. He should log in and change the password in case someone is still using it. Also, check to see if the hacker has added an auto reply spam message.0
