I'm noticing more and more these days (around here anyway) that pedestrians are stopping at the crossing to cross the road but not pressing the button. Instead they just seem to stand there for ages and ages until there is a gap in the traffic before crossing. Madness! :D

I always press the button, then cross when there is a gap, then watch the lights change when I'm somewhere down the pavement on the opposite side.

The trouble is, even if they press the button, it takes so damn long to change that they end up chancing it across the road anyway. Puffin crossings are the biggest waste of money ever. They haven't done a thing for road safety, just delayed pedestrians and motorists alike into taking chances. I've even seen drivers drive through on red long after pedestrians have crossed, just because the light seems to stay red for ages.

The idea was good in theory, but either these things just don't work or they've been badly programmed.
