Why wouldn't anyone realise that this could be seen as disrespectful - especially to the older generation. Very rude without asking firstDownshifted

Sounds like they only did it to annoy him and it's having the desired effect.Well it doesn't sound like they have done it for good reasons and more to annoy, therefore I think it is disrespectful. And also childish.
I think you've misread the previous post. We were asking whether it was an accident that she got named that name, or whether she was named after his wife with knowledge that it was her name. She's replied saying it was intentional - not the upsetting of the grandad, just the fact she was named after her intentionally and he's got upset since then.
They should have agreed to change her name straight away however, if it's got to the point now where they're not talking because they refuse to change her name to honour the nan, and grandad is upset by it.Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!0 -
I know a girl who as a child named her kitten after her recently deceased sister. I dont know how her Mum coped with it. Initially I thought it was awful but then i realised it was her way of keeping her sister alive and of using her name.
Sadly, as if matters werent bad enough, the kitten died, also from cancer
How can it possibly be done as a mark of respect???
And even if it was surely you would apologise and change it as soon as you realised you had caused offence!0 -
I named my dog Paddy and my grandad was called Paddy too, never occured to me that it could be offensive!
My Gran is also dead though and my Dad thought it was funny when I told him what we were calling him so he doesn't mind. If he had been upset by it, there's no way I would have used the name.
ETA - I wouldn't name a pet after a recently deceased family member, my grandad has been dead 15 years though. Think happy & you'll be happy
I :heart2: my doggies

intentional, they arent speaking its been going on a while.
Ah, I can see why he is upset then. Even if they didn't think it might upset him, the fact they know now and aren't speaking over it is awful.
I can see both sides of the situation, and understand that some may find it offensive whilst others would find it a comfort, but deliberately going against her husband's wishes and refusing to change the name is really disrespectful imo.0 -
Bit weird.
Say your grandmother was Irene, might seem ok until you have to yell "No Irene!" "Irene drop it!" "Do a wee Irene!" " Irene, sit, stay, roll over" etc etc.
I think naming a child after a dead relative cab be a lovely gesture, a dog not so much.0 -
My real mother has bought and dog and named it after my dead Sister the whole family cant stand it but then she does push the boundries all the time she even has birthday parties for my sister with the dog as guest of honour. We just wish she would remember my sister with a bit of dignity.:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Had to laugh at post as I have named two of my kids after my favorite (now dearly departed) dogs. Both were rescue dogs and I never changed the name so I just reckon the kids are lucky they wernt called muttley and shaggy by previous owners.0
