Although they wanted money from me, I've only ever got through to helpful and friendly people. I felt like wishing them well and sending them a goodbye card when I made my last payment to them!

NCO were nice to me - only because I reported them to original lender who were not impressed when I told them how they treated me as it didn't show them in a good light for using them.

I dealt with NCO once, I got through to this advisor who I assume was in his late teens, bags of attitude and he took the hump with me because I told him that I would be paying by standing order.....

NCO: "We don't do standing order, we need a cheque or this will go to court."
ME: "I don't have a cheque book, I wish to pay by standing order."
NCO: "Send a postal order today then and I'll not send this account for legal action."
ME: "No, I will be paying by standing order, can you give me the bank details please."
NCO: "ARE YOU GONNA TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR DIS DEBT, YEAH?"
ME: "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, you sounded like Ali G then!"
    NCO: *puts down phone*

    Honeybee,

Sounds about right for their level of customer service. They took money out of my account without authorisation - told them I was reporting it as fraudulently done. Also asked for refund. Got refund and now pay by standing order. Though this was after them sending me round the houses and singing at me down the phone.

  • Ha ha.... Ali G... I like that one.
  • I could almost picture him there with a hoodie, shades and Lizzie Duke bling!

I think he was upset that I wasn't intimidated by him. When I worked at the mobile phone place, I liased with DCA's and learned a lot about how they work and that a lot of what they do is scare tactics so when I spoke to them for my own debts, they weren't able to scare me as I corrected them when they spouted their bull.

Imperial Financial (?) who are collecting on behalf of the Funding Corporation (and I think Capital One). Very pleasant right from the start though I do pay them £15 per week. They also do not charge interest or lump on their own charges and the standard settlement figure (about 60%) is outlined from the start.

I think that they're based in Glasgow...

  • I know others have had bad communications with them, but i've been lucky with Moorcroft, they took over my TMobile debt & the man who spoke to couldnt have been nicer, I phoned him in a panic because i'd received a letter threatening legal action, but he talked me through it, asked me how much I could afford & that was it, I asked him to send me some paying in slips for the post office as I didnt want to set anything up with the bank.

I paid it off early this month as i'd been saving my pennies & offered a reduced amount & they gladly accepted, I got a letter in the post the next day saying that my debt is all paid off.

I've got 'arrangements' with Intrum and Westcot (and about 3 others!) and it's all been fine. I think they leave me alone because when I first defaulted I spent a year ignoring all the letters and threats, then when I decided to "take action" I just told them what I'd pay and that was that. I had bigger things going on at the time so I didn't really give a toss. Now they're all on standing orders. Occasionally I raise the amount by £1.50 just to mess with them ;) So I suppose I've had about as good an experience of them as you're ever gonna get from a DCA :rotfl:

    Mike...

Personally, Mike the answer is emphatically NO.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
