    Hi,

A bit too late for tomatoes, but there's plenty of stuff you can grow from seed in July:
Radish, lettuce, carrot, rocket, dill and other herbs, some sorts of spinach!
  • I am hoping to plant some now too. I have quite a few things growing in the garden but I want to keep producing for as much as the year as possible as I am very very poor at the moment! lol.

ms poppins - could you please tell me if any of those things can be planted in pots? And should they be indoors or out? I have a plot almost empty, but I haven't had the time to dig it over etc yet so pots would be much easier! I have some of those compost things that expand when wet and you can just plant the whole thing in the ground when ready. Would that be any good for lettuce and carrot and spinach? I think those are the only thing on your list that we would eat really!

Thanks, and sorry for hyjacking the thread!

I've got raddishes, salad, rocket, herbs and carrots all in pots, so I guess you should be fine with all of them.

I've got carrots in big trug/pots too, which seem to be doing fine, I've heard you shouldn't grow carrots in the expandable compost pots, as you carrots will only grow to the length of the little compost pots! Which could be a little disappointing!

I've also got some pack choi and swiss chard seedlings growing, which I started in the little coir pots (that disolve), will plant into bigger pots soon.

    Hope that helps

you could also sow some spinach, and it might not be too late for some winter kale but don't quote me on that! :p
  • How much depth do carrots need to fully grow? I might even be able to find a pot big enough to sow them in and then not have to worry about planting out. Will sow some spinach and lettace tomorrow in the expandable things. And I will have a think about the carrots!
