Basic Bank account with Solo Card

  • HSBC definately do NOT offer solo on a basic account, I know as they refused me! They wouldn't even give me a bank account as the fraud agency could not garuntee my legality due to me not being on the ER even though I had my passport, driving license and utility bills etc
I went accross the road to Llloyds TSB and 5 mins later I had a current account but no swith, solo :(
  • I have a lloyds basic bank account and only get a cash card for their machines!!

I have to say initially it was annoying but I find I spend less, as I have to make effort to go to lloyds cash machine for money! I have a prepaid card that I use for any internet transactions etc
    debt April 2007:

    Link Financial £6486.79
    MSDW £4915.45
    Natwest Loan £30651.43
    Tesco £3824.09

Total debt.... a staggering £45877.76, but reducing

Debt free date June 2013 (a long way off and counting...)
  • Thanks everyone for your suggestions..

I've found a yorkshire Bank in High Wycombe (about 25 miles away), So I'm off there to open an account tomorrow..

Of course if anyone knows of any other banks that offer Basic Bank Account with Solo Cards (except natwest) then please do Post as something closer to home would be better!!

    Thanks to you all :)

Thats really odd - my husband opened an account with them back in April, and he wasn't on the electoral roll at the time. He was refused a proper account because of bad credit, and since he had no other accounts they offered him a basic one. He got a solo card given with it.

That said, if you weren't allowed any account at all with them, either your branch was being too strict, or ours too lenient...

    Hiya,
It's a debit card. Its the switch/maestro version on Visa'a Electron if that makes sense.

I'm after a Solo Card instead of an Electron one as Solo seems to be more widely accepted.

yes you can use it abroad if the cashtill displays cirrus.

Enjoy your holiday in the knowledge that you wont need one of those ghastly prepaid cards to get money out.
