TV ariel £150?

I have just been quoted £150 to install an ariel in my room and I thought this is excessive. Does anyone know how much it should cost?

I have a room in a large shared house and I dont know if there is already an ariel on the roof. It was previously a large hospital so I guess it should have. The TV ariel man said its because its digital or something but is there anyway I could just have a normal cheap ariel?

Many thanks

£150 Sounds like a rip off to me, is it possible you could fit your self, BUT first check if you live in a good reception area, perhaps the neighbours might tell?

it does seem excessive, I have never heard of an aerial installed in anyones room unless its a special indoor amplified ariel. How far are you off the roof in terms of cable run to the roof? is there anyone else where you live that may be able to advise you? look in your local free papers but check the link above

I dont know if this will give you some idea but we were quoted today to fit an aerial in our house
    £95 for a digital aerial
    £89 amplifier(sp)
£35 for each point you need
at the moment in our bedroom we have a cheap aerial from argos i think it was about £10 out of our bedroom window and its a brilliant picture we also tried a freeview box and its a brilliant picture
but as we want to get freeview in the other bedrooms we need to get someone to do the lot
we did ring around a few places and they were roughly the same price

Excellant advice.i run my own t.v. aerial business and have helped folk on here before. The price is usually reflected in work required.I am a member of the cai (as above link) and adhere to their strict code of practice.

I would always suggest ringing a few companies and comparing prices. We do charge a lot to fit an aerial but we also have a lot of costs.
    * The Van
    *Insurance
    *Liability Insurance
    *Tools
    *Signal measuring meters
    *Ladders
    *Fuel
    Etc Etc

But also we have to risk our necks daily to do our job,we take care and use the best safety equipment,to do a job that some folk cannot/will not do as they dont fancy climbing onto their roof. The £150 may seem expensive but ring round and compare.
    Onwards and Upwards ;)

Also the laws about working over certain heights have now become incredibly strict, Liability insurance premiums have gone through the roof, all this needs to be paid for unfortunately and the customer ultimately pays the cost.

Its the nature of an increasingly litigous society.

A massive thanks for your advise. I will first look into an indoor ariel and if thats no good will use that link above for a good ariel company.
