hi all, have been having problems a few days with my pc. the mouse freezes, programmes stop and I cant shut it down every time and have to use the main switch to turn off. I admit I do go on some dodgy sites and file share. I have run cc cleaner, spybot, virus scan and nothing picked up. tried to use a previos restore point (twice) but wouldnt restore. Am going to try a de frag tonight but apart from that I am stuck. any pointers will be gladly received

Download malwarebytes anti-malware http://majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html
Check for any updates and then run full scan - make sure that you tick options to remove any found objects after the scan.0 -

I would check your hardware. Could be an overheating problem. (when mouse freezes is it just mouse or does clock freeze aswell? Is your fan operating, heatsink clean etc. If its a software virus problem that malware bytes/antivirus can't detect its probably a rootkit, so you would need a rootkit remover. I'd check hardware first though.0 -
thanks both for that. I will investigate that malware site. As to the second one I had not noticed the clock to be fair. The mouse sort of stops and either just wont move at all or it moves again after about 20 seconds. Sorry but no idea what the other things you mention are about heatsinks but I will do a bit of background and see what I can find. It may be overheating of some form though now you mention it as last night when I was trying to sort it it made a clicking noise as though it switched itself off for a millisecond.0

That's what I would have suggested because I had the same problem not long ago. It was my graphics card with a missing screw. Also try and reseat the ram, graphics, etc.0
