Seller will not refund postage.

I bought some supermarket coupons and when the came they were scanned and printed ones. I contacted the seller and said I wanted a refund. He said they were internet vouchers (I do not believe this), but he said he would refund but I have to send them back and he will not refund my postage. I know this is only a stamp and a £4 odd refund but it got right up my nose. He has wasted my time. I just messaged him to say I will contact paypal tomorrow. I see by his feedback he has done the same to others and amazingly the have given him pos f/back while complaining about the vouchers!! Do you think I will have a result off Paypal.

  • Claim for excessive postage through paypal. Tell them that he never used any postage, as the items were e-coupons and sent via email. You should be able to claim back the postage this way.

But they were posted in the first place. Why lie?

  • The postage I'm referring to is the stamp and hassle I have to send them back. Although I don't know why he is bothered about that. I could scan them and print my own but I don't want to try and use these in a supermarket.

paypal wont refund the money it costs you to send them back.
if you want a refund you will have to return the coupons (at your own cost) to the seller before payal will refund.

  • If I'm reading this correctly...the seller will refund the £4+ you paid for the vouchers?....but not the cost of the original postage to you ..i.e. a stamp?

He doesn't have to refund your postage, so he's right in what he says ...check that with Paypal......personally I'd take the refund and be happy with that, to be fair it's as much as you'd get ( if indeed you got anything at all ) if you chased via Paypal.

I'd ignore the "advice" of those who advise you to lie and cheat to get money back......hardly worth causing yourself a potential problem over the cost of a stamp.

if i had known then what i know now
  • Did you not check the feedback before buying?

Bare in mind paypal asks you to send back by trackable means, otherwise you won't be able to prove that you've actually returned them,
  • If the vouchers are home-printed copies, I hardly think the seller's likely to complain that they did not receive the returned item, so I'd take a chance and send them back standard 2nd class rather than recorded, since it wasn't a very expensive item.
A Paypal refund would normally include outward postage, but not return postage. You could be waiting a long while, and if the seller disputes your claim, it would take up more of your time replying. If the seller only charged you the price of the stamp for postage, you got off lightly - most charge extra for packing and handling. If you're determined to make a stand then there's nothing to stop you, but if the seller hasn't left feedback yet, you could probably expect a neg if you start a dispute, and the whole thing will be way more hassle than it's worth unless you consider it extremely important as a point of principle.
    I'd take the refund offered.
  • Deanos, it's not a question of being bothered about the price of the stamp as such, although being a regular on MSE i suppose we are all "tight gits". I'm bothered about the !!!!!! misleading buyers. I might pay the extra and send his vouchers back wrapped in one of my babies used nappies. (Bought with ebay pampers vouchers obviously).
Yes, I was a bit remiss about checking feedback this time. I notice he negd a buyer who had negd him for sending copies. Surely that can be disputed with ebay?
