Problems with IE

I am puzzled and would appreciate any input - one more time fixing a neighbours daughter's laptop as it won't connect to the internet.
Keeps coming up with the message 'proxy server settings won't work' or words to that effect.
However, I was able to update Spybot S&D, Firefox makes no difference and it won't let me update malwarebytes.:eek:
I have put on the portable version of SAS but not sure how to update it as it seems different to the normal version?
Any help much appreciated.:o

Have you tried to update and run in Safe Mode?

Try Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and then at the bottom click on the Reset button. That will reset IE back to its default settings, which should clear any erroneous settings that have been entered.

Hi Rik.
No, all updated now and I've installed SAS which wasn't on before.
These two have detected 2 nasties and a number of minor things so all seems well now.
