Marmadukes Hotel in York, ok??

Hi everyone, I'm looking into booking a hotel room in York for 1 night at the end of August for my 5th wedding anniversary. After looking on Trip advisor and various other sites, the hotel that has caught my eye is called Marmadukes. However, after looking through the internet, I've found some newspaper reports that it is in administration?? The most recent I could find was from May this year.

Just wondered if anyone from York could confirm this or not, or recommend it or not. It has really good reviews on trip advisor. Or, just from a general point of view, has anyone stayed in York recently for 1 night, for roughly £89 - £100 per night and would recommend it?

Many thanks in advance :o

I would reccommned Dean Court, right by the Minster, and close to the Shambles.

We stayed in the Queens Hotel, right on the riverside very close to the town centre. Was a nice Hotel, not the best I've stayed in, but I would go back there again. It cost us about £75 a night at the beginning of June.

There are a few Travel Lodges around and about too which might be worth checking out!

As far as I am aware marmadukes is still open but it is definitely up for sale, was down the road it was on on tues.

Have you looked at the Grange or Churchills? They are in the same area as Marmadukes and only a 6/7 min walk away from city centre. Think they are slightly more costly than Marmadukes but worth a visit.

If not have a look at Deans Court Hotel, it is right near the minister. Again within the city walls is Black Swan on Peasholm green, The golden Fleece which is meant to be the most haunted pub in York but the rooms are gorgeous, they only have 4 from memory. There's the Queens as well like another poster has said. Best Western Monkgate is right in the centre of town, literally a 30 second walk.

Would definitely steer clear of the likes of Travelodge, Premier inn and those places as they are so dear in the city, you can get better value at an independent hotel.

Hope you find somewhere nice to stay and have a lovely weekend x

We lovedthe Dean Court, and we also had dinner there, we requested a Minster view table andthat is what we got the food was good and the rooms were very nice, overlooking the Minster.
