Wi-Fi hotspot keyring

Does anyone know if the Wi-Fi hotspot keyrings are any good at finding wireless network connections or are they a gimik?

Both ........ they just detect a wireless signal, netstumbler and a laptop does the same.

Are they handy to have to detect wireless signals rather than keep checking via the laptop.

To me they are a gimmick, you have to ask yourself when are you going to use it..

If the network is encrypted, then you aren't going to be able to connect anyway (unless it is a paid for service), and it's illegal to connect to someone elses network without their permission.

Reviews of the cheaper ones about nine months ago indicated they were mostly a waste of money. They may perhaps have improved since then.

I use the Zyxel ZyAIR AG225H 54Mbps A/B/G Wireless USB Adapter (snappy name, huh?!) and find it pretty good. Again there may be others of the type since late last year.
