ceiling leak

live in a ground floor flat bought it off the council as a long standing tenant. water has been coming through my hall ceiling & down the wall. it has ruined the artex on ceiling & wallpaper on wall.it is coming from the flat upstairs which is still rented off council.council came and fixed leak in roof upstairs . yesterday i had my ceiling artexed again at my own cost as it was cheaper than going through insurance.it has rained today & the water is pouring through again. if i report it to council again would i have to pay to have the ceiling done again or would it be there responsibility. is there anywhere i could go for advice as obviously the job has not been done right

You should be able to claim off your insurance, or you could claim against the council for damages.

  • I work in a council housing repairs department. I would advise you call the council up again and report it. Although each case is different, most 'flats' in blocks pay a ground rent charge which covers your share of the cost of maintaining the roof, guttering etc, in which case you should be able to claim for damages from the council, as it sounds like the repair wasnt carried out correct first time round...
