NHS voluntary serverance - half of compulsory rate offered

I work for a PCT (no, it's not a good week to be employed by a PCT) and the trust offered a voluntary severance scheme on Monday. They are offering a month's pay for every two years of NHS service. The standard NHS entitlement is a month's pay for year of NHS service, so what they are offering is approximately half of what we would be entitled to should there be compulsory redundancies.
I was just wondering whether any other NHS organizations are doing the same thing.

I was not employed by the NHS but I did get a similar package from the DWP for 17 years service. I was involved in a lot of the negiotitions for closing the office down and my advice would be to see what the Union (UNISON?) advise. It may be that enough people don't take the voluntary offer so they have to make complusory redundancies, but there is also the risk that you wouldn't fall in the complulsory group as they tend to make the more needy staff go first (eg those with bad sick records, disciplinary cases etc)
Go and talk to a Union rep and get there take on it. The package I received has changed my life for the betterI got the money and I got a new career as well

Thanks. Funnily enough I joined Unison today! I suspect if they don't have enough takers they will increase the offer (going off a clause in the contract).
I have just been offered another job; if I didn't like the one I have so much I may be tempted but not so much at half of my entitlement. Shame I can't keep the job I like but hey, there's another 30,000 people in the same boat.0 -
i also work for a PCT - and before this week we knew there was going to be redundancies....
we have been told that we will get the full month for each year.... i've only been here 3 so not so great for me, especially seens as i have just taken a pay cut as i hated my last job so much...
i do however have a plan B, and C, and D - although seens as one os opening a brothel, and one of the others is getting arrested, and living in prison - i have a feeling that i might be up a certain creek.
