AVG scanning problems.

Everytime I run an AVG scan the computer just dies. It scans for a while and then everything stops and I have to reboot. (windows XP) It seems to update fine.
Any ideas?

Running in safe mode may let you run a full scan, but it wont solve the problem. You need your antivirus to be running well to make sure that it is protecting you full time (real time protection as well as running scans). If it is causing a problem when scanning, it may also not be covering you properly all the time. This is not a good thing.

As a first move, I would be tempted to uninstall AVG, and reinstall it again. Download the latest version first, then make the changes. If you are still having the same problems, I would be tempted to uninstall AVG, and install Avast (another free, very good antivirus) run Avast on boot up. In my experience (I use both of these on different PCs), Avast is a bit better than AVG.

If you can't run either of these properly. You need to come back and tell us. This could point to bigger problems than just corrupted software.

1 hour in and its still scanning. It would normally have crashed by now. Fingers crossed.

You may have a virus stopping it scan ?

Get rid of AVG and try downloading Avast as Rex suggests.

I have done an online virus scan with symantic and it has tested clean.

Where do I download Avast from?
