No brake lights - crash

Are sure the landy had its brake lights out, A freind who drives a landy fav trick is use engine breaking to slow down when someone up his jacksey to give them a scare( I don't condone his actions). It engine breaks very well. The police can have break bulb analysed if it was smashed in the accident to tell if they where on or not at accident but it does sound like a possible scam.
Allays allow enough of gap between you and the car in front to allow for you to come to emergency stop with a bit of extra distance for safety sake. It doesn't get you to your destination any quicker driving too close to someone and will save you fuel as you wont need to brake as often/as hard.(not aimed at the op friend as this what he/she did)0 -

I was far away as I had just joined the road. Wasn't anywhere near him so there would of been no need to do a scare tactic!0 -

Normal Rovers are much better than Land Rovers at that one.
Land Rovers have much better engine braking though.

Lets face it, brake lights, and their correct functioning of ALL bulbs, are a legal requirement for a reason. Insurance scamsters are known for disconnecting the brake lights and slamming on the anchors. If they could get away with the scam with the brake lights connected then they'd be connected wouldn't they?!
They could get away with it but the likelyhood of getting rear ended when the brake lights aren't working is so much greater, as almost happened in the op's case.
It is a fact that drivers expect to see brake lights. They register more quickly in the brain than judging the change of speed of the car in front and so in the op's case it can be expected to have to brake more harshly under those circumstances.
Not much more point in doing anything else after youv'e pointed the failed lights out to him, as said unfortunately the op was the unlucky innocent in his case.
If it was a single occupant car it wouldn't have been a scammer, they load the car with whiplash fodder.:D:DI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
What is it about Land Rovers??? The one and only time I can remember being behind a vehicle with non-functioning brake lights the vehicle in question was a Land Rover."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Not necessarily. The guy who got caught earlier this year was always on his own near the same roundabout which happened to be outside an office when he did this.
Plus there are scammers who add a few people to the car because it's your word against theirs.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
