It could be either
- Where did you buy the compatible ink from, is it branded ?
- When you changed the ink did you run any maintenance on the printer?
Generally with ink cartridges, when you refill them or swap them out for 3rd party cartridges you usually have to run something to get the printer to read it again
For Canon, you use a program called IPTool/MPTool or Manufacturer software if you know where to look
For Epsom, you use a program called SSCServe (IIRC)
You could try going into google and running a search for something like this
epson sx100 cartridge change not printing inurl:fixyourownprinter.com
That site is quite good and finds the results for you, at a guess I'd say you've either got an incompatible cartrdige (which I doubt), or you need to force your printer to recognise it (most likely) by a low level maintenance mode, or running a program like SSCServeOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

I would say it was the cartridges, i have the sx200, i bought my compatible via ebay from INK-POWER 14 for £10.99 i think and that included p&p, they are generation 7, which is the newest compatible. work flawlessly and i didnt have to run something to get the printer to read them, worked straight out the box.

Good point, in hindsight I should have added that to my post. I think you said what I was trying to get at
As long as the cartridges are genuinely compatible there should be no reason why they shouldn't work, if they're cheap and cheerful compatible there can be problems

I was just saying compatible cartridges are fine too as long as they're not duffers. I never mentioned anything about their pricesOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them
