as above, girlfriend cant find the V5 document and we're due to trade car in this weekend, its been lost in house move, would the trader take the car in and we send the new V5 on? (wasnt sure if theres a way he can check ownership of vehicle any way?)
If not, and we have to apply for a new V5 (fingers crossed we dont), how long they usually take to come through?

doubt it i had similar few years back had to get replacement before they would take it,cost then was £16 i think0 -
I transferred my parents car into my name with no v5 and it took 6 weeks this was 3 months ago. Half that for no aggro good luck x0

I’d guess it depends on what the car is, if it’s an old shed & heading for the crusher then I don’t think they’d be bothered, if they intend to sell it on retail then they would want it as the lack could well put potential buyers off.
How keen they are to sell you the new one could affect their attitude too given that waiting for a new one to arrive could well delay things by a month.0 -
In short your car is worthless without the V5 however if you phone DVLA a replacement is £25 and if you pay over the phone with a debit card they usually dispatch the same day so do it quick. AS transfer or similar as mentioned above takes a lot longer but a straightforward replacement with no change in details should come quickly..0
