Lexmark cartridge to recycle - any suggestions?

I've got a genuine Lexmark 17 ink cartridge to recycle. I could recycle it with tesco to get 100 points but I think I might prefer to do something ethical with it.

Which charity, cause, or company would you personally recommend and why?

Have you checked your local school? Ours collect ink cartridges and batteries-I dont know how they recycle them but it pays for their vegetable gardens and some playground equipment etc.

ETA: To answer the question of why? My child will be attending from next term and so he and his friends get the benefit themselves-they all see a bit about consequences as a result "DS, will you give these to your teacher today please? Oh yes mum sure, and we got new seeds this week we'll be planting today. Thats from taking these right?"
  • I normally refill my ink cartridges a) because I'm really stingey and b) because it eliminates waste altogether, but I like the idea of donating them to charity when they konk out.

There are all sorts of charities that will accept them; Recycling Appeal, ActionAid Recycling, Cartridges4Charity, AgeUK, Green Agenda and, Each One Counts to name a few. I guess it's just a case of whichever one suits your fancy! I really like the idea of donating to your local school aswell :)

Would love to find out too. I've got a couple of HP printer cartridges, some websites value these at £1-£2.50 each but it doesn't seem worth signing up for it specifically, one I found wanted to send out 8 bags for them when I'd only use one bag every now and again. I hate recycled cartridges so won't refill them myself as in my experience they ruin printers while invalidating your warranty but I'd hate to throw them in the landfill. Suggestions? I just want a freepost address I can post them to and be done with it!
  • Try a site called Cartridges4Charity. You have to check the model number of your cartridge to ensure that they'll accept it, but if they do then you can print out a freepost label, slap it in an old envelope and send it their way for free. All profit goes to charity aswell, so it's basically a free and simple way to do a good deed and help the environment simultaniously. Instant Karma!
