Blight - a reminder!

Just had a text message from fight against blight telling me there's a full smith period for my area. (For newbies, a 'full smith period' means perfect conditions for blight to spread).
Just thought I'd pop over here to remind people to register for the service (it's free) but also to make themselves aware of what blight looks like and to BE VIGILANT! As it doesn't take too long to take hold.

Thanks Silvercharming, I will mix up some bordeaux solution tonight and spray my potatoes. This is the only chemical I use in my garden... I was converted last year after losing all of my tomatoes to blight.

Do you have to reregister for this as I was on the list last year, but so far this year haven't had any messages- I am in the northwest and so far my toms look fab with no signs at all, but things have gone from very dry and hot to wet in the last couple of days, so worried the humidity will shoot up and the dreaded blight will be on the way.
Think I will get out and thin some of the branches to make sure the air is circulating, good news is there is a good quite cool breeze as well so not perfect blighty "smith period" type weather as yet.

I didn't have to re-register, but I did have to sign up for the text messages - I don't recall signing up for the texts last year at all though, I only remember getting the emails?!
Another text today tells me that it's still full smith - it's fairly windy here but still muggy if you see what I mean, Anyway, I'm keeping an eye out. I don't use chemicals at all, I haven't managed to bring myself to use bordeaux mixture, but my tomatoes are under cover so the risk there is reduced, and my potatoes are almost ready so if the worst happens I'll whip 'em out quick. I do have a recipe for an anti-blight made from horsetail, but haven't got round to making any yet...0 -

I've already got blight on my toms in the greenhouse - never had it before.
I don't use chemicals as a rule but I have relented as I don't want to lose my crop - I may lose it anyway but I'm going to try and fight it.If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat

I have sprayed my outdoor tomatoes once (I grow organically) apart from this and am now checking my plants every day. Reckon it's worth swallowing my organic principles rather than lose 30 tomato plants after all the loving care I've given them. I'm also trying out some new varieties this year so would be gutted to lose them.0

I found a spot of blight this morning on my potatoes, I thought it felt like a Smith period weather and checked the blightwatch site, we've had 3 days of it so far.
I've nipped it out and it doesn't seem to be spreading yet, time will tell. Nothing on the toms yet. probably time for a bit of a tidy up of old leaves in the greenhouse, trouble is not many leaves seem to be looking old yet and I'm always reluctant to remove decent leaves.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Full Smith period here too
I lost allmy tommies last year, I am watching and praying I don't lose them again
Good Luck everyone0 -
I got a text today too. I have potatoes in bags and I have greenhouse toms. Went out to check them and I noticed this on one of the potatoes -

Should I be worried or am I just being paranoid? I have of course now removed those leaves and disposed of them. Mummy to an amazing little girl
