Verbally made redundant, but not received written confirmation

Options
So, I had my third consultation meeting on Tuesday 13th and was told that I'm now officially redundant with my last day being 13th August 2010 (my one months/four weeks notice).

So far I've not received any written confirmation of this, so is being told verbaly that I'm redundant with a set date legaly acceptable ?. If say I don't get written confirmation for another 5 working days, I'm then in to my notice period, can I argue that I'm not actualy into my one months notice and that the one month should start from receipt of the writen confirmation ?.

Thanks.
