buying currency with credit card

In very basic terms, presume that buying currency on your credit card is the same as withdrawing cash. It's an incredibly expensive way of doing things.
When I buy foreign currency in the UK I usually pay in cash as even using a debit card may incur charges. Most of the time though I just take my credit and debit cards away with me and put most purchases on the credit card and when I need cash I use the debit card at the ATM
as I usually get a better rate of exchange than I would do getting cash prior to going away0 -
