stop smoking contract

Options
i am already a long standing member of this forum, but for obvious reasons (ie my sister is as well), i have created a new nom de geur.

i am looking for some help.

has anyone come across a contract ..... regarding giving up smoking.

i have convinced my older sister to finally give the weed the boot...... she has tried on and off for the past few years, having smoked for over 20 and i would dearly love her to stop..........

i realise that this type of thing is a personal commitment, but i honestly believe that she will go for it. mind you i have got to do something as well, ie shed a few pounds.
she is going to get her gp to help, ie patches,

so any helpers.......

what do you aim for the contract to achieve?

Im embarking on giving up the dreaded weed at the moment early days and all, I dont know if a bit of paper would make it better/easier anything, in fact it would just make me secretive *& resentful if I did start again, which lets face it is rather likely giving up the fags is one of the hardest things anyone can do.

This outlines things to include in a contract:

But, personally, I've found that trying to stop because someone else wants me to doesn't really work. I became a secret smoker for a long time, which in many ways is worse.

Hope it works for your Sis though :)

Personally thats the wrong move in my opinion because you are putting so much pressure on Sis to quit (even though you might not think so).

A smoker has to quit for themselves, the more you try to push someone then chances are they will fail. Help her to quit but dont try to make her quit.
You can help by giving her tips and the main thing is tell her to change her routine. So if after dinner she would have a smoke tell her to have dinner, wash the pots and do whatever. If she normally has a cuppa and a ciggy tell her to start having a glass of water or something like that.

im into my 9th month of packing in smoking :D
  • having looked at the internet...... i agree with all of the above.....
whilst we have agreed a date to start, she seems intent, ie she mentioned about bringing the doctor into it.
so i suppose, yes i may have shanghied her into it...... but as you say, if she doesnt want too, or rather wants to continue secretly she could, apart from she lives with our mother. i mention about telling all the family and friends but she wasnt overly comfortable with that, but then she mentioned the doctor bit,

i think i will let it lie for a week or so, then ask her whether she has contacted the gp.
i will also pass onto her plenty of info. ie setting a target/treat etc

I'm about to bite the bullet of my own accord and haven't told anyone yet (she said to however many people read this bloomin' thing! :rotfl: )

I just don't like all the attention people get when they're trying to stop - I mean I don't want all that attention, just want to get on with it by myself.

    But everyone's different - thank God :)

i think she truelly does want to pack it in... but needs someone to give her the first shove then gently coax her through.... which i will do.
she has also asked to keep it quiet, which is fine by me, I think possibly in case she fails....... but i will support her
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

I really relate to this. I hate the sneering
"Oh, given up smoking have we" (they're almost wishing you would fail) or

"Aaahhh, thought you were more grumpy than usual - giving up smoking would explain it" (when really it's their holier than thou attitude that makes you grumpy!) or

"Go on, have a cigarette. Just one won't hurt" (from others who continue to smoke and want you to help keep the numbers up!)

Grrrrr!! It's difficult enough without this hassle so I can well understand you not drawing attention to it! :D
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
