Hi,
Could someone please help with cutting the cost of train tickets?
My 23 year old daughter and myself will be travelling from Sandy (Beds) to York some time in early October for 3 nights.
We are having to watch the pennies and the train tickets that I found on Trainline came out at over £100.
Does anyone know how we can get these prices down please?
Many thanks in advance,
Carrie

Yes, click on where it says "Singles for £17.50" (or £35 if there are two of you). You should be able to get the GNER Standard Advance 3 singles for £17.50 each, each way.
If your daughter gets a Young Persons Railcard she'll be eligible for the GNER Standard Advance 4 single at £14.20 which brings your total journey cost down from £107.20 to £63.40:money:Can I help?0 -
Thankyou very much rdwarr, I will go there now and check it out.

Hi again rdwarr, I can't find where it says Singles for £17.50. Is this on trainline's website? Could you possibly point me in the right direction?
Many thanks,
Carrie

Use GNER's website for an extra 10% discount - https://www.gner.co.uk/gner. An example where the £17.50 singles are coming up is on the Sunday 8th October, returning Wednesday 11th October.sorry no links in signatures by site rules - Forum Team 20

I'm getting confused by these websites, as I can't see where it says £17.50 singles.
When I register and put in details for 2 people travelling, it says the cheapest is £31.20 single.
Can someone please point out step by step what I should be doing to try and get the £17.50 singles?
I couldn't even find £17.50 singles by entering the dates you mentioned, evesham.
Many thanks,

The £31:20 is the single fare for 2 people, If you click on the £31:20 it will confirm "2 adults @ £15:60 each". Use Eveshams link it just worked for me and I didn't even enter the discount code.0

If you can, get hold of a local paper such as the Yorkshire Evening Press as they often have offers such as London to York for £30 - check the website. Here is a link to train company special offers which may be of some help - http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/promotions/toc_index.html
https://www.trainline.com also shows fares in single costs which is often cheaper. Also try breaking the journey down into sections to get the best deals. For example I recently had to travel from Scarborough to Newcastle but instead of looking for the on the web I broke the journey down into 2 sections - Scarborough -> York, York -> Newcastle and this saved me a lot of money.0 -
Thankyou very much Pompeyrich and Hourglass, it's clearer now! Doh! (Me)
