Laptop Query

Hi techie folk
Posting on behalf of a friend - she has a laptop (Fujitsu (sp?) that runs permanently plugged into the mains. She recently bought a Logitech webcam and has noticed that when she uses this it is draining the battery (we think). What happens is that the laptop makes a loud humming noise, then it goes silent and then the laptop turns itself off. It is fine when she is not using the webcam.
Any ideas, o wise ones?
Thanks

Sounds more like it is over heating.. the loud noise you will hear is the fan spinning up. If the laptop gets too hot it will more than likely shut down.
What surface are you using it on?
are the air vents clear?
Its possible, although i've not seen it before, but the extra power needed to run the webcam is causing the laptop to over heat.0 -

Many thanks for the quick response  Funny thing is I asked this question on behalf of a friend an lo and behold my lappy has started doing it as well! The vents are clear and it is sitting on a desk top.
When I had a tower my husband was able to open it up and clean the fans. However, this is a laptop. How hard is it to get inside to have a clean? Would it be better to take it somewhere and get it done professionally?0 -

I am not sure where the fans are placed on your laptop but sometimes I just get my hoover and put the hose against the fan grills to suck up the dust
You could even use an air duster, a laptop cooler may even help in the future."He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,
He will kill your cat and nail him to the door"
