Mini Cooler for Uni

I'm after a mini cooler/cooler for uni - I'd like one which is a good enough size to store things like milk, cheese and odd bits too. I had the one from Tesco but it stopped working. :(

Any ideas where to get a decent but good priced one?

Amazon are good for things like that!
  • Word of warning - if you're moving into halls these are usually not allowed. There's only a certain amount of electricity that halls of residence systems can cope with. I worked in halls during my first year and one thing that always caused a power failure was, for example, on a Friday night just before going out time....too many hairdryers! University accommodation departments try to avoid things like this happening by restricting large wattage items like mini-coolers and kettles in rooms etc. You may just end up getting it confiscated by the accommodation team.
  • Our regulations only prevent the liquid cooled coolers ;) I had a cooler last year and it was ok with them even when the room inspection was done :D

    I've found this one: http://www.minicooler.co.uk/products/waeco/mf18.htm

But it's £99  But it's cool too with a silent function meaning I won't need to lock it in my cupboard overnight :rotfl:
  • btw if anyone's seen this one or one like it cheaper elsewhere please post on here! :p

You mustn't do that. Peltier modules don't have a very good CoP compared to vapour cycles and think how hot the back of a traditional fridge gets. If you shut a mini-fridge in a confined space the heat sink will gradually stop working as the fan is unable to convect the heat output away. As the temperature gradient across the peltier module increases it will need to work harder to maintain the differential and so will kick out more heat. If this is permitted to continue the system will overheat and either the peltier will just fail (hopefully) or the peltier will fail and it will start a fire.

perhaps you should have got the uni to get in a decent supply. if it happens all the time prevent the problem... unfortunately stupid rules never last.

I got a good mini (half normal size) fridge from Makro for £70.... Sounds expensive in relation to the tiny fridges, but was more than big enough for my food and stuff, and it had an ice box. Fitted on a desk too. Could easily fit 10 330ml cans, plus a couple of ready meals, and milk, butter etc in the door!
