DLA - whom should I inform?

Today I learned my younger son is going to get DLA at the middle rate for care.

Is there anyone else I should inform? I am on income support at the moment.

Thank you.

if you are in receipt of child tax credits you should inform them as you may be entitled to the child disability premium and also if you are on IS- you should inform them too - I BELIEVE you also get an enhanced rate of IS for having a child on DLA - however I am happy to point out that this piece of information may be well out of date- I know before the advent of CTC you got an enhanced IS payment - but it may well be that CTC give that extra payment now rather than IS

Apply for carers allowance and you will get a carers premium on your IS, you also need to inform tax credits and they will amend your child tax credits. Also worth informing HB and CTB.

always tell all different benefits people about dla.

esa wanted to put my money up by adding severe disability premium because i had esa and dla mid rate care

housing benefit wanted to take a tiny bit of money off (for some reason) because dla was considered other income.
2 esa medicals passed successfully (support group - it can be done!!)!! :j

If claiming IS & carers allowance, the CA is taken from IS and a carers premium is added.

Kazzah - that was the case when payments for childen were included with IS.

thanks sh1305 - I thought my info was out of date and that the CTC had probably superceded the disability element of IS

Are you being pedantic for the sake of it?

They take £53.90 from your IS
Then they give you £53.90 CA
Then they add on the carers premium £30.05

DLA is not counted as income for housing benefit purposes.

  • Hope this is in the right place, I am unable to work out how to start a new thread! I have recently been awarded DLA at the highest rate for mobility, which was granted on the point of appeal for some reason! Anyway, I also received a letter from a solicitor about an unpaid water rate debt, my finances have been in a terrible state for some time as I have so little money to live on. I need to write to them and make an offer of payment, but I need to know if the DLA is counted as part of my income, I know it's not counted against Housing Benefit so I just wondered?

private companies can treat it however they want

southern electric treat dla as 'income' for their social/low income tariff etc (ie. your dla could push you over the threshold)

DLA isn't income and shouldn't be treated as such.
