Denied new BT promotion on existing card

in Credit cards
Hi
I got a Virgin credit card on that 0% for 15mths (whatever it was) deal - and switched the debt to another 0% card when this promotion ended (about 4 months ago).
I heard about phoning back up to ask for a new promotional deal once the statement has equalled £0 for a few months.
Both times I got flatly refused. And even though it said I have new BT promotional deals available on my account now (online account) I still got told there was no deal whatsoever available when I called them up last night.
After that I phoned up again and asked them to close my account - I was expecting at least a little cajoling to keep the account open (hmm maybe with the enticement of another promo deal) - but no!
The Scottish guy in the call centre happily closed my account with no argument whatsoever!
I'm not complaining about this - it just all went against what I originally thought would happen!
Making it easy to close an account (and all that available extra credit clogging up my credit score!) it's gone!

Ah. You've discovered that banks want customers who make them a profit - not the other way round.0

Indeed - repeat offers typically come along when a customer has a standard balance - as putting a balance transfer on top of this means the whole standard balance continues to accrue interest until you've repaid the entire promotional rate transfer. Ergo making more money for the card company.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Several posts recently on these forums, suggest that offers showing on your online Virgin account are seperate to what the call centre staff can see or authorise. I.E. if you have offers showing online they can only be applied if you do transcations online, such as performing the BT through the online service.
Hopefully someone will come on and clarify this as searching for these post on the forums with the keyword Virgin, is like searching for a needle in a haystack.0 -
capital one are the same with me, called up nothing offered today0

If it was showing online why not just click that link and do the transfer.
The call centre staff haven't a clue.
I phoned once to ask if they could offer me anything on purchases. Said no. When I then looked online I had a purchase offer.0 -
Call centers in Asia...they will be the peril of those companies.
In regards to the "no hassel" closure, well done but Virgin do keep notes of every conversation on the system so they may well have known that you had wanted a new offer and when you didnt get it you tried to close it off in the hope you may get them to offer you something. But a nice plasant way to close it off in the end so well done.
Took me about 15 minutes just to close off a subscription today and the attendant got chatty with me as and when she realized i want staying on past the second thirty day freebie (creditexpert) and i finally got some answers out of them...sometimes the threat to leave can get them off their backsides and actually give you a better service - it just all depends.0
