Does the overdraft apply when the account is open or when the grant cheque goes in?

How long does it take before you get cards etc. My daughter opened hers last Tuesday over a week but has not heard yet.

I opened an account with them yesterday, and they told me to allow 7-10 working days to receive the card and railcard pack.

You don't automatically get any overdraft, at least you didn't a couple of years ago. You have to call to apply, and ime it's best to apply for a small amount and extend it if and when needed as it reduces the temptation to overspend.

If you do take the overdraft make sure you start paying some cash into the account. Otherwise they'll start the nasty letters after about 9 months as well as withdrawing your cards/cheques.

yeah - for me they wouldn't put it above £500 to start with. which is bizarre since they kept increasing my credit limit on their credit card - well not that bizarre since the credit card charged and the overdraft didn't!!! i wasn't too impressed!
