Some people do actually intend to rent, then see a house they want to buy and realise that they either have to go for the house they want or commit to a six month rent by which time the house will have been sold. Annoyingly.
We lost our first house primarily becuase of delays on a our seller's purchase. On our current house the sellers were saying they were going to rent all the way along and we never believed them. When we were about to exchange they delayed for 3 days because they were sorting out a rental prperty and we were convinced they were changing their mind and not selling at all. Turned out they were always definitely selling as they had run out of money, but didn't want to admit it!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. You can exchnage and complete in an hour but that does not help you tie them down to your date. the best you can do is really stamp your feet and threaten to pull out if "I don't exchange by 5pm Friday" etc -somehow when buying and selling houses some people think it's fine to leave people high and dry and string them along -we have moved quite a bit for jobs and the one thing I think after each move is I wish I'd stamped my feet more -even though i usually end up doing so . All is fair in buying houses apparently and the best stamper wins.0 -
Ooh, solicitor has just phoned to say the other solicitor is ready & were we happy to go ahead & exchange. I said "Yes!" so she will phone me when she hears it's all gone through. Hopefully it will all happen today now & we can have a relaxing weekend (of box packing!).
