I don't know what your income is but maybe if you calculate the payoff and it's more than your debts you could start hoping that they decide to fire you!!! ;o)0

1. Don't panic, you are not the first and will not be the last to face redundancy.
2. Don't do anything that puts your current job and potential 8 months salary at risk.
3. Don't apply for other jobs unless the new job opportunity is too good too miss.
4. You can only apply for a new job and keep the redundancy money if you have been selected and told that you have been selected for redundancy. Do not leave or resign without written warning/notice of your redundancy.
5. The redundancy terms offered are very good. Many people only get statutory redundancy pay and that can be an insult.
Lastly don't be worried.

Eamon is quite right in the above advice DO NOT panic. Your redundancy package is more than the statutory you would get. Big hugs.0 -

Not necessarily. A lot of companies will offer voluntary redundancies before selecting people to lay off. Helps them to not be the bad guy in too many cases... And if you've got something else lined up to go to, well you're in a brilliant position then. My friend's work announced they were laying off 25% of their staff, offered voluntary redundancy before they started choosing people to go. He took it, and had another job a week later. Nice wee bonus to leave with!0 -
sarahs999, the deal being offered to you is much better than the statutory, which as a rough rule is about 1wk per year. Plus, and it's a big plus, much of this will be tax free. As a result you will probably find yourself with a years income in one go, which should give you a bit of comfort. Get a job relatively quick and you will be better off, or this could be a good time to follow OH's lead and do something you like better. When I got a year's money following redundancy it gave me the opportunity to take a pay cut doing something I prefer. I'm much happier and healthier now.0
