Young Driver Insurance

I am a student and class myself as a safe driver and was fed up with being classed as a boy/girl racer so I thought I would share this with you. I have just found a young driver policy which has saved me a lot of money. My dad has some commercial insurance with this company and was told that they now provide a young driver policy which can save me up to 70%. I had already looked on compare the market and was shocked to see what the prices were based on a TPF&T option, which I didn't want as my dad advised that this would not cover my car in the event of me causing a claim and my car being damaged, it also wouldn't cover you if you had any personal injury claims. Anyway I spoke to a lady at Towergate in Teesside and she explained how the policy worked and what was required for me to be eligible for the full discount, anyway to cut a long story short, the premium was £2,000 less than the alternative policies available on a Comprehensive basis. I have recommended my friends and 80% of them have found this to be a great moneysaver too. Anyway if you want to save money try calling them on 01642 666070 and see if they can help you too, its deffo worth the price of a phone call and they can cover anyone wherever you live. Good Luck xx

You saved £2,000. But you don't say what the car was, what your age is, and how much the insurance was. So not sure if it was a good deal or not!

I didn't know towergate did car insurance, but it's got to be worth a try considering the alternatives.

I would wager a fair amount that this was only offered due to the commercial insurance connection. I doubt that this level of discount would be open to the whole market.

Or added it to his fleet
  • I am 18 years old and drive a Peugeot 106 and the premium was £1800.00 with a £400 xs. I was being quoted over £4000.00 elsewhere and the cover was not half as good, this included cover for legal expenses and cover if I lost my keys. I would get a courtesy car and I also get windscreen cover included. My dad said that Insurance is based on your job and postcode aswell as other factors so premiums are based on a individual basis. This also allows me to build up my own no claims discount which will help me out in the future. I have friends who are named on their parents policies and they will not get the chance to get their own no claims discount, also my dad said that in the event of a claim some Insurers might not pay out as they can class it as fronting (not sure what this means). The bottom line is I am happy and I have my own independance. BTW i was offered a policy from Quinn but me and my dad have looked at other blogs about this insurance and they do not have a very good reputation to say the least. Just thought I would spread the word its up to you at the end of the day :):j

is this spam, £4k for a pug 106 doesnt sound right, more like £1500
  • It is not added to his fleet as he does not have one he is a landlord, also the price they gave me was from a main Insurer and my dad was advised they could not give any extra discount as they cannot undercut the prices:j as it is a product only available through a number of brokers.

You can't just say it doesn't sound right without knowing all of the facts - £1500 might be about right for a female, low risk postcode, etc. but for a 17 year old male, just passed test, high risk postcode - £4k for 106 would not be unheard of.

Some companies simply do not want young drivers so load the quotes up or refuse to quote at all.
